Threads is a social network that mirrors the famous Twitter, but with a smaller audience. Some say there's no traffic there, while others claim there's plenty. To draw conclusions, you'll have to read my case study to the end.
Below I'll tell you about my two tests: the first one on dating, and the second on OnlyTraffic. Spoiler: the second partnership with OnlyFans brought me 4 times more money in just 2 months.
First Case: $680 from Threads to Dating
In the fall of 2024, I was sitting in arbitrage chats where participants were discussing Threads as a source for the dating vertical. Threads is often called dead, but people write this to reduce competition and scare away the curious. I didn't fall for these stories and decided to test it myself.
I didn't spend much time thinking about the approach: I went into the social network, saw how others were driving traffic to my niche, and simply did the same thing.
First, I registered an Instagram account. For this, I used a VPN, which cost me $2 per month. This, by the way, was my only expense in this approach. It's better to create an account with an email so that in case of anything, you have access to remove a ban.
After that, I spent half an hour liking other girls and imitating the behavior of a regular user to build trust. The likes also formed the recommendation feed I needed, from which I later took content for my posts. Then I logged into Threads through this Instagram account, set up my profile, and started posting.
Back in the fall, Threads was actively promoting new accounts and pushing almost all posts into recommendations. Because of this, they gained activity and reach without any special actions: hashtags, groups, and so on, like in Twitter. Funnily enough, I literally just posted photos, and this brought me money. Usually, my posts looked like this:
I hid the link through AllMyLinks and placed it in the comments to my own post, as shown in the first screenshot.
On the account, I posted photos of different girls and OnlyFans models, without any particular type or approach. The captions for the posts were short but catchy to bait for comments and likes, for example, "Rate my photo from 1 to 10." I also created the effect of inaccessibility and wrote something like: "I'll check my DMs and maybe even reply to someone." I also responded to comments to make the account look more alive.
In a month, I drove 55,000 unique visitors to the dating affiliate program, which brought me $680:
The main geo of users and registrations in the affiliate program was from the US, which now makes me sad, because I could have earned several times more from such traffic:
Sometimes I faced shadow bans, but this problem was easily solved: I simply deleted old posts, changed texts, and used new photos. If an account was completely banned, I just created a new one and started all over again.
Second Case: $2,400 from Threads to OnlyTraffic. Onlyfans vs Dating.
A little later, I learned about the OnlyFans-affiliate OnlyTraffic, where you can choose a real model and drive traffic to her on a RevShare basis from all the fans' spending on the page. And I decided to try the same approach.
Despite being given content from this girl that I could post on Threads, it didn't work as well and didn't gather much activity. So, as before, I posted photos of other models from Instagram, but in the comments I dropped a link to the model's page with my tracker.
This way, from just three accounts, I drove half as many unique visitors as to the dating affiliate program – 25,500. In almost 2 months, the model earned $9,805 from 3,107 fans that I brought to her profile, of which $2,450 came to me:
Also, these subscribers continue to spend money on the model, and even if I don't drive traffic, the payment will continue to come:
Conclusion
Working in Threads has become more difficult now, but you just need to put in the effort and everything will work out. Sometimes accounts get banned because of explicit content, but you just need to be more careful in choosing content and not try to show everything at once. In my opinion, it makes sense to leave some mystery so that the user wants to see more interesting photos and go to OnlyFans.
After trying both affiliate formats, I can definitely say that OnlyTraffic is more profitable and converts better. Now I advise all my acquaintances who drive dating traffic to move to the OnlyFans niche.
In the future, I plan to scale my approach and drive traffic to different models to improve conversion and earn passive income. Good luck to everyone!
